Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) Project Agreement

I(Farmer) voluntarily joined the Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) project of Erda Illumine ("EI")

Erda Illumine is a not-for-profit organization registered in Delhi and has been working in the environment sector since 1998.

Erda Illumine (EI) has made farmers' aware of the project objectives and clearly explained the following:

  1. It is a voluntary project, and EI will not obligate the farmer to be part of this AWD Project.
  2. Farmer is free to leave the project anytime but should inform the EI staff with reasonable advance before leaving.
  3. AWD technique and process to save water and reduce Greenhouse Gas / Methane emission.
  4. Training for implementing the AWD technique.
  5. Farmer will be deemed to qualify to be part of this AWD Project when PVC/AWD Pipes are provided to the Farmer.

EI and Farmer agree the following:

  1. PVC/AWD Pipes for AWD will be provided to the farmer free of cost.
  2. EI will provide periodic training and maintain records.
  3. Farmer is not obligated to pay any kind of fees or service charges to the EI.
  4. This project will be taken under the Carbon/GHG Offset Program and the land from the farmer will be part of EI driven carbon project.

Farmer undertakes:

  1. To record in the log book and inform EI staff about the crop details, sowing date, yield, cultivation plan, total number of days for cultivation period and harvesting date.
  2. Not to change or increase the fertilizer / manure application rate under AWD.
  3. Maintain the same area under AWD rice cultivation in each season and every year.
  4. Monitor the water level and irrigate the field as per the technique and guidance of EI staff.
  5. Facilitate soil and water sample collection and testing.
  6. Support EI in successfully implementing the project and achieving the project objectives.
  7. Not damage the AWD tube (PVC) pipes provided by the EI and maintain them in good condition to use in the next season.
  8. To support EI staff in organizing training sessions and undertaking project activities.
  9. To cooperate with EI during third-party validation and verification of the project activity.
  10. To participate in stakeholders consultation meetings organized by EI.
  11. Not to allow any other Company / Entity / Organization to initiate the same AWD activity on the said land.

In addition to the above Farmer acknowledges:

(a) acknowledges and agrees that EI shall have no liability for any damages arising to the farmer or third parties in connection with the installation, use or removal of the PVC /AWD (pani) Pipes for AWD except in case of willful misconduct or gross negligence of EI during installation or removal:

(b) recognizes that ownership of and right over any carbon credit generated as a result of the use of AWD and any environmental benefit associated with such carbon credit belongs entirely to the EI and renounces any claim over them.

Social collective benefits:

As per the availability of resources and ground needs, EI aims to roll out programs in the village by providing a collective social benefit linked to the performance of the AWD project, and priority will be given to the registered farmers and subject to the need and availability of resources to the shortlisted farmers.

Examples of the collective social benefits that EI intends to implement are the following:

  1. Open a custom hiring Centre (Agri Centre) year upon year in different villages/clusters.
  2. Plantation of multiple species of trees.
  3. Skill development training (Nursery, Vermicompost, Mushroom, Seed Processing, and others) for the youth of 18-35 years of age.
  4. Form women's groups and build their entrepreneurial skills.
  5. Facilitate linkages with the relevant government subsidies.

Duration:

This document and the obligations set forth therein shall be valid for a minimum period of 7 years from the date of signing thereof and may be extended by mutual agreement of EI and the Farmer.

Applicable law and jurisdiction:

This document shall be governed by Indian law. Any disputes relating to this document shall be settled in the courts of Delhi.

I acknowledge that I understood the project in detail and voluntarily joined the project to implement the AWD technique at the farm and support EI in making this project successful.
